The AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT was released in May 2022 as a refreshed flagship GPU based on the RDNA 2 architecture (Navi 21 KXTX die). It features 80 compute units with 5,120 stream processors and 16GB of GDDR6 memory with faster 18 Gbps memory speed (compared to 16 Gbps on the RX 6900 XT), delivering 576 GB/s bandwidth. The card includes 80 first-generation ray tracing acceleration cores and 128MB of Infinity Cache to significantly boost effective memory bandwidth. Built on TSMC's 7nm process with a 520 mm² die containing 26.8 billion transistors, it delivers 23.65 TFLOPS of FP32 performance at a boost clock of 2,310 MHz. With a TDP of 335W (increased from 300W on the RX 6900 XT), the RX 6950 XT was designed as AMD's ultimate RDNA 2 gaming GPU, offering higher clocks and faster memory than the RX 6900 XT to compete with NVIDIA's RTX 3090 Ti in 4K gaming. The refresh included improved clock speeds across base (1,860 MHz), game (2,100 MHz), and boost (2,310 MHz) frequencies, making it the fastest RDNA 2 GPU for gaming workloads with DirectX 12 Ultimate support including hardware-accelerated ray tracing and variable rate shading.
